On 21 September 1945, Kittyhawk A29-1057 flown by Flying Officer Goodwin was being ferried from Labuan to Oakey in Queensland, when it crashed approximately 50 miles east of Morotai, NEI, at about 0900 hours. The aircraft was one of a formation of five aircraft being escorted by a
Ventura. While flying in cloud, A29-105 disappeared from the view of the Ventura and one of the Kittyhawk pilots reported seeing a P40 spin past him through the cloud and disappear. Searches were conducted but no trace was found of the missing aircraft or pilot.
