At 1931 hours on the night of 29 September 1941Wellington X9910 took off from Marham detailed to bomb Hamburg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at 2252 hours at Blijham (Groningen), 5kms south east of Winschoten, Netherlands. Five of the crew members were killed and one taken prisoner.
