On the 13 January 1945, DH82 Dragon A17-207 flown by Pilot Officer Gilligan, departed for Narrogin and was detailed to remain there for four days, flying co-operation exercises with the Volunteer Air Observers Corps. At approximately 0220 hours on the 14 January 1945, Pilot Officer Gilligan was killed and three others were injured when a VAOC van in which he was riding overturned near Narrogin.
