On 12 May 1918, Lieutenant George was killed in the crash of RE8 aircraft C.2473 at Worthy Down, near Winchester. A witness reported that the aircraft, flying at about 100 feet, made a flat left turn and stalled and then made a half turn spin into the ground. The Court of Enquiry determined that there was insufficient evidence to determine the cause of the accident.
