On 8 July 1942, Hurricane AG125 took off on non-operational day formation flying practice and crashed at 0930 hours at Solway Firth, Cumberland. The accident occurred when Pilot Officer Maxwell a Staff Pilot was leading Sergeants Gane and Robieson (in Hurricane Z7077) in a line astern formation and it appears that AG125 and Z7077 collided, became locked together and crashed, killing both Pilots.

The Pilots were:

Sergeant Albert Leslie Gane (405126) (Pilot) (Hurricane AG125)
Sergeant Te Roki Robieson (1375959) (RAFVR) (Pilot) (Hurricane Z7077) (from New Zealand)
