Pilot Officer Freeman was reported missing on air operations in India on 20 April 1943. At 1400 hours he was ordered to intercept a raid approaching Agartala. It was assumed that he was either shot down or forced landed and would have come down in very thick jungle. Also lost in this raid was Flight Sergeant James Alexander Simpson (946014) (RAFVR).
