On the 1 February 1942, Anson X1212 and Anson 3164 collided while carrying out a photographic pin pointing exercise. Anson X1212 crashed about 1.5 miles south west of Collondale aerodrome and the five crew members were killed. Anson 3164 was damaged but landed safely on the aerodrome.
