At 2013 hours on 4 September 1943, Lancaster JA929 took off from Oakington to bomb Berlin. The aircraft was lost and all the crew members were killed. Flight Sergeant Fleischfresser’s body was recovered but the remainder of the crew is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
