On the night of the 6/7 July 1944Wellington MF138 took off from the Tortorella Landing Ground, Italy, detailed to attack the airfields at Fuersbrunn, Austria. The purpose of this attack was to disrupt German fighter aircraft operations against US Bombers raiding facilities on the oil supply route along the Danube River. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and all the crew members were killed.
