At 2043 hours on the night of 27 March 1944 Wellington R1669 took off from RAF Station Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, Satellite airfield for night circuits and landings. Two hours later, the aircraft swung while on approach and dived into the ground near the airfield. Immediately there was an explosion as the bomber went up in flames. All the crew members were killed.
