On 3 July 1943, Aircraftman Class I Fennell, a General Hand, was killed by a civilian truck while walking along the road back to camp. He had a day’s stand down and went to The Rock. He returned to Uranquinty by train about 1800 hours and had commenced to walk back to camp.
