On 5 June 1941, Sergeant Evans was instructed to carry out further training in Tomahawk AK408. The aircraft crashed about 2.5 miles east of Jaffa and he was killed. From information supplied by Arabs living in the area, it appeared that the pilot had dived the aircraft and climbed steeply to about 5/6,000 feet and then went into a spin and remained spinning until the aircraft hit the ground and burst into flames.
