On 20 May 1940, John Tudor Evans, an instructor with the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia, died in an aircraft accident while supervising a practice forced landing at Maylands Airfield (Dunreath) WA. Air Cadet Allan John MacPherson also perished in the accident and became the first serving RAAF member to be killed in an aircraft accident in Western Australia.

John Tudor Evans was a Western Australian who had held previously a short service commission with the Royal Air Force.
