On 10 August 1943, Wirraway A20-488 flown solo by Sergeant Eadie was detailed to carry out an exercise including aerobatics, low flying and flapless landings. At about 1015 hours the aircraft hit a tree when flying too low and crashed approximately 10 miles north cast of the Williamtown aerodrome and Sergeant Eadie was killed. He was on No. 4 Vultee Vengeance Conversion Course.
