On 13 August 1918, Second Lieutenant Dunn flying under instruction was fatally injured in the crash of Avro aircraft D7788 at Leighterton.  The engine failed and the aircraft stalled and nose-dived to the ground, injuring instructor pilot Captain Robert William Mackenzie RFC.
