Lancaster LM624 of 57 Squadron took off from RAF Station East Kirkby, at 1631 hours on the night of 6/7th November 1944 to cut the junction of the Dortmund-Ems and Mitterland Kanal systems near Gravenhorst, Germany. Nothing further was heard from the aircraft after take off and the aircraft did not return to base. All the crew have no known grave and their names are commemorated on the Memorial to the Missing, Runnymede, Surrey, UK.
