At 0935 hours on 9 March 1942, Hurricane Z4199 took off, for cloud formation flying practice. The aircraft crashed between Alburgh and Harkston, killing Sergeant Dolman. A Court of Inquiry into the accident found that: “the Pilot whilst carrying out a simple formation practice, lost his Leader in a dive, and whilst looking for him did not notice his close proximity to the ground. He started pulling out too late, striking the ground almost in flying position. It was considered an error of judgement by the Pilot.”
