On the 7th June 1943, Oxford R6388 crashed at 1220 hours, during a solo non-operational training flight, and the Student Pilot, Sergeant Deacon, was killed.

The pilot was carrying out navigation exercise No 5. Having landed at Grove and taken off from there at 1200 hours, he was returning to base. The aircraft was seen at about 1230 hours close to the circuit area at Ramsbury, Wiltshire, at a height of 1,500 feet, when it was seen to go into a vertical dive and crash.
