At 2245 hours on the night of 25/26 July1943 Stirling BK686 took off from Chedburg detailed to bomb Essen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Essen-Borbeck and all the crew members were killed.
