In preparation for its task with the 6th Division, No. 71 Wing (at Tadji) was further reinforced by a flight from No. 4 (Army Cooperation) Squadron, which began operations early in November 1944.

On 17 November 1944 No. 4 Squadron Boomerang A46-149 was on an armed reconnaissance along Little Ramu river in the Angetji area when as it pulled out of the dive, hit a tree, turned on its side, struck another tall tree and burst into flames killing its pilot Wing Commander Daly. On 18 October 1945 a patrol officer found the wreckage and Wing Commander Daly who was buried with full military honours.
