On 17 March 1941 Sergeant Curle, a Wireless Air Gunner, was admitted to 15 SLOT General Hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound in the abdomen and he died on the 17 March 1941. Sergeant Curle was on leave in the Cairo area and was resting in his cabin aboard the Nile steamer Puritan when the accident happened. Sergeant Alfred Harrison (751564) (RAFVR) of No. 55 Squadron was Court Martialled and found guilty of the negligent handling of an automatic pistol.
