Lancaster ED614 took off from Elsham Wolds at 2141 hours on the night of 20 April1943 detailed to bomb Stettin, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shor down by a nigh fighter and crashed at 0022 hours on 21 April at Vester Vedsted, 7 kms south west of Ribe, Denmark. All the crew members were killed.
