At 0943 hours on 28 November 1945, Oxford LW879 flown by Sergeant Clough crashed 300 yards north-west of Port Parham and he was killed. He was on a solo general flying practice during which, in breach of orders, he proceeded to shoot up the rest camp at Port Parham. The aircraft pulled out of a dive, took a steep turn to the right and slipped into the ground.
