At 0110 hours on 5 April 1942 Hurricane BG795 took off from Ratmalana aerodrome during a general air attack by Japanese aircraft on Colombo. BG795 was seen engaging an enemy aircraft and during the combat BG795 crashed in flames approximately 8 miles north east of Ratmalana aerodrome killing Flying Officer Caswell.
