On 29 May 1942, Sergeant Bundara, a student pilot flying solo, was killed in a mid-air collision at Heany aerodrome, Rhodesia. Also killed were Sergeant John Kenneth Wray (1451028) (RAFVR) and Flight Lieutenant Richard William Stokes (42027) (RAF).
