At 0037 hours on the morning of 8 June 1944, Lancaster DS822 took off from Waterbeach detailed to bomb rail facilities at Massy-Palaiseau, France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at la Celle-les-Bordes (Yvelines), 11 kms east south east from Ramboullet, France. Three of the crew members were killed and the others were PoWs or evaded capture.
