At 1833 hours on the night of 22 October 1943 Lancaster DV162 took off from Grimsby detailed to bomb Kassel, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at 2055 hours at Lavenforde on the east bank of the Weser opposite
Beverungen, Germany. Two crew members were killed and the others became Prisoners of War.
