On 2 May 1945, Leading Aircraftman Brown, a Driver Motor Transport, collapsed and died of heat stroke when taking a shower. He was on board LST 1035 which was conveying troops from Morotai to Tarakan, and the LST was anchored at the time awaiting facilities to disembark troops and equipment.
