At 1410 hours on 15 August 1943 Wellington HZ351 took off from Davidstow Moor to carry out an operational sortie in the Bay of Biscay. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. The enemy claimed to have destroyed four British aircraft in the area that day, but it is not known if it included HZ351. Following post war enquiries and investigations, it was recorded in 1948 that the missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
