Corporal Austin was a member of s special draft recruited for the Flying Corps.  He embarked at Adelaide on HMAT Boonah on 22 October 1918, but became ill and was disembarked at Fremantle and held at the Woodman Point Quarantine Station where he died on 26 December 1918.
