On 24 June 1944, Leading Aircraftman Atkins, a Fitter II Engines, was riding his motor cycle which collided with a car and he died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. The accident occurred between Mihi Creek and Boody’s Store on the main Brisbane-Toowoomba road.
