On 25 May 1943, Corporal Andrews, a Guard, was proceeding on posting to No. 3 Stores Depot, Brisbane, and had been instructed to proceed by tender to Central Railway Station, Sydney. The tender skidded on a slippery road wet from rain and crashed into a telegraph pole killing Corporal Andrews.
