At 1345 hours on 29 May 1944, a Kittyhawk flown by Flying Officer Altoft took off detailed to carry out an operational flight bombing tanks north east of Froginone, Italy. Five minutes after take- off, the aircraft collided in mid- air with another Kittyhawk flown by Flight Sergeant Stevenson and both pilots were killed.
