On 7 September 1918, Lieutenant Allen was killed in an aircraft accident at Minchinhampton.  Sopwith Camel aircraft C.106 that he was flying solo, looped and then became inverted and spun into a hay shed at Clarke’s Farm.  The Court of Enquiry concluded that Lieutenant Allen had lost control while in a flat spin and the machine then crashed.
