LEST WE FORGET

Air Operations: (No. 460 Squadron Lancaster aircraft NX585), Germany, 25 April 1945

Lancaster NX585 took off from Binbrook at 0525 hours on 25 April 1945 to bomb the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) and the nearby SS Barracks in Bavaria near Berchtesgaden. The aircraft crashed behind enemy lines and the crew members spent the last few days of the war in captivity.
