On 7 March 1942, Kittyhawk A29-3 flown by Pilot Officer Norton being ferried from Bankstown to Townsville crashed near Wauchope and Pilot Officer Norton was killed. The crash site was circled by Pilot Officer Lloyd Henry Holliday (411786) in Kittyhawk A29-1 who was to crash and be killed near Kempsey later that day.
