Brother of Flight Sergeant Leonard Stewart Middleton (406400)

Maryland 1655 crashed three miles north of the Suez Cairo road, approximately 30 miles from Suez. The aircraft was engaged in carrying out certain exercises which included firing at a ground targets. During these manoeuvres the Pilot was engaged in firing practice with the front gun. The Pilot dived the aircraft too steeply near the ground, and in attempting to recover, the aircraft became power stalled at a low height and crashed. All the crew members were killed.
