At 1759 hours on the night of 1 October 1942 Halifax BB236 took off from RAF Linton-on-Ouse detailed to bomb Flensburg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Friedenshugel, near Flensburg. Four of the crew members were killed and three were taken as Prisoners of War.
